Tidal Bore Rafting the World’s Highest Tides
Only the truly brave sit at the front of the boat when they are white water rafting on a tidal wave. Oblivious to this fact, I climbed in the front of the inflatable zodiac when we set out to go tidal bore rafting on the Schubenacadie River near Nova Scotia’s famed Bay of Fundy. It didn’t take long for me to feel the full impact of my mistake. I wrapped my fingers around the rope along the sides of the raft as we headed at high speed directly toward the tidal bore. The raft jolted upwards and everything was obscured from view as brown sludgy water engulfed us. When I checked…
Canmore Cave Tours and a Claustrophobic Caver
Everyone has fears and phobias – even if they don’t like to admit it. Claustrophobia, the fear of being in small spaces, is one of mine. I know it’s irrational, but when I find myself stuck in a small space my heart starts to pound and I want to get out as quickly as possible. Sometimes I panic, like the time I got stuck in the ladies bathroom at a Subway restaurant when the doorknob broke. Knowing this, you might wonder why I signed myself and my family up for a guided tour of the Rat’s Nest Cave with Canmore Cave Tours. And you might be surprised to learn that…

Everglades Kayak Trails
A gentle breeze sweeps along the shoreline of a mangrove covered islet and the only sound that can be heard is the kayak paddle slicing the water as we maneuver our vessel closer to the shore. Sitting near the water’s edge is a small reddish-brown colored raccoon rummaging through a pile of oyster shells. He barely seems to notice our presence as he feasts at the oyster bar. Moments later he takes to the water and swims to another tiny islet to search for more oysters. This Everglades kayak adventure is much different than I imagined.
