CPAP Battery Backup for Camping and Power Outages: BLUETTI EB3A and Elite 10 Review

CPAP Battery Backup for Camping and Power Outages: BLUETTI EB3A and Elite 10 Review

Some of the world’s most beautiful camping destinations do not have electricity. That can be a serious problem if you rely on a CPAP machine for sleep apnea.

A portable power station can keep phones, laptops, cameras and other electronics charged while camping, but for CPAP users, a reliable CPAP backup battery is far more than a convenience — it can be essential for getting a safe and restful sleep.

For years, the lack of electricity at campsites limited how often my wife and I went tent camping. Sleeping without my CPAP machine left me exhausted and sluggish the next day. That changed when I started testing BLUETTI portable power stations as CPAP battery backups for camping trips and emergency home power outages.

In this review, I tested the BLUETTI EB3A and the newer BLUETTI Elite 10 portable power station to see how they performed as CPAP backup batteries for camping, road trips, RV travel and emergency preparedness.

My Journey with Sleep Apnea

For more than twenty years, my wife and children complained about my snoring. My wife often suggested I might have sleep apnea and encouraged me to get tested, but I resisted because I thought I slept normally.

One day at a health fair, I stopped to chat with someone because they noticed the logo on my favorite hockey team cap. After talking sports for a while, the conversation unexpectedly shifted to sleep. After asking me a few questions, the health worker suggested I might have severe sleep apnea and offered me a free at-home sleep test.

A few days later, I received an urgent call asking me to return to discuss the results. The results shocked me. I was stopping breathing an average of 54 times per hour while sleeping. The medical staff told me it was one of the most severe cases of sleep apnea they had ever seen.

Starting CPAP therapy changed my life almost immediately. I slept through the night for the first time in years, woke up refreshed, had more energy during the day, and even lost weight. Since then, I have never wanted to travel or camp without access to my CPAP machine.

Why a CPAP Backup Battery Is Important

CPAP machines travel surprisingly well. Mine is compact enough to bring on airplanes and quiet enough to use almost anywhere. The challenge is power. Many campsites, wilderness cabins and remote accommodations do not have electrical hookups. During storms and unexpected outages at home, losing power also means losing access to a CPAP machine. That’s why a portable CPAP battery backup can make such a difference for travelers and campers with sleep apnea.

A good portable power station can:

  • Run a CPAP machine overnight
  • Recharge phones and laptops
  • Power cameras and small electronics
  • Provide emergency backup power during outages
  • Recharge using wall outlets, vehicles or solar panels

After researching portable power stations for CPAP use, I tested two popular options from BLUETTI: the BLUETTI EB3A and the BLUETTI Elite 10.

BLUETTI EB3A Review: Reliable CPAP Backup Battery for Camping

The BLUETTI EB3A is one of the most popular compact portable power stations for camping and emergency use.

Charging and Setup

Charging the BLUETTI EB3A from a household outlet took just over four hours. The LCD display clearly shows battery percentage, charging speed and power usage, making it easy to monitor.

The EB3A can also recharge from:

  • A vehicle 12V outlet
  • Solar panels
  • Standard AC wall outlets

That flexibility makes it useful for camping, RV travel and emergency preparedness.

BLUETTI EB3A CPAP Runtime Test

I tested the EB3A using a CPAP machine with a humidifier, which uses significantly more power than a basic CPAP setup.

On a full charge, the BLUETTI EB3A powered my CPAP machine for approximately six hours.

That runtime could likely be extended by:

  • Turning off the humidifier
  • Disabling the heated hose
  • Using a DC power adapter instead of AC

In addition to powering my CPAP, the EB3A also charged phones, cameras and laptops with ease.

Approximate charging capacity included:

  • About 15 smartphone charges
  • About 5 laptop recharges
  • Multiple camera battery charges

What I Liked About the BLUETTI EB3A

Quiet Operation

Unlike gas generators, the EB3A operates silently with no fumes, making it ideal for tents, RVs and indoor emergency use.

Multiple Charging Ports

The EB3A includes:

  • AC outlets
  • USB-A ports
  • USB-C ports
  • DC outputs
  • Wireless phone charging

This versatility allows multiple devices to charge simultaneously.

Durable LiFePO4 Battery

The lithium iron phosphate battery is safer and longer-lasting than many traditional lithium-ion batteries.

Portable Design

At 4.6 kg (10.14 lbs), it is compact enough for car camping and road trips, though too heavy for backpacking.

BLUETTI Elite 10 Review: Ultra-Portable CPAP Battery Backup

The newer BLUETTI Elite 10 is a smaller and lighter portable power station designed for travel, emergency kits and lightweight camping.

If portability is your top priority, the Elite 10 has some major advantages.

What Makes the BLUETTI Elite 10 Different

The Elite 10 is:

  • Smaller than the EB3A
  • Lighter and easier to carry
  • Extremely quiet
  • Fast charging
  • Ideal for short camping trips and travel

Its compact size makes it one of the easiest portable power stations to pack in a vehicle, RV or carry-on setup.

The built-in handle and sleek design also make it convenient for quick power outages at home.

BLUETTI Elite 10 CPAP Performance

When it was fully charged, the Bluetti Elite 10 powered my CPAP machine with a humidifier for 4 hours. I found the Elite 10 worked best as a lightweight CPAP backup battery for:

  • Short overnight use
  • Travel
  • Power outages
  • Camping without electrical hookups

When running a CPAP without a humidifier or heated hose, the Elite 10 provided several hours of reliable power.

However, because the battery capacity is smaller than the EB3A, it is better suited for:

  • Shorter sleep periods
  • Travel backup
  • Emergency use
  • Minimalist camping setups

If you use a heated humidifier regularly, the EB3A or a larger BLUETTI power station will likely provide better overnight runtime.

Solar Charging for Off-Grid Camping

One of the best features of BLUETTI portable power stations is solar charging compatibility.

When I tested the solar panel attachment, it took approximately six hours of sunlight to fully recharge the battery under good conditions.

For off-grid camping, van life and emergency preparedness, solar charging can be extremely valuable because it allows you to recharge your CPAP battery without access to electricity.

This makes BLUETTI power stations particularly useful for:

  • Remote campsites
  • RV travel
  • Van life
  • Cabin stays
  • Emergency blackout situations

Some of the best accommodations don’t have electricity. This is where we tested the Bluetti EB3A power source.

CPAP Battery Backup – Cold Weather Performance Considerations

Like most portable batteries, performance decreases in colder temperatures. During cold-weather camping, expect somewhat shorter runtimes from any lithium battery power station, including BLUETTI models. Keeping the battery inside a warmer tent or vehicle can help improve efficiency.

Final Verdict: Best BLUETTI Power Station Battery Backup for CPAP Camping

Both the BLUETTI EB3A and BLUETTI Elite 10 performed well as portable CPAP battery backups, but they serve slightly different purposes.

Choose the BLUETTI EB3A if you want:

  • Longer CPAP runtime
  • Better overnight performance
  • More charging ports
  • Greater battery capacity
  • A versatile camping and emergency power solution

Choose the BLUETTI Elite 10 if you want:

  • Maximum portability
  • Lightweight travel power
  • Compact emergency backup
  • Easy transportation for road trips and short camping stays

For anyone with sleep apnea who enjoys camping, road trips or remote travel, having a reliable CPAP backup battery can make travel far more comfortable and enjoyable.

After testing both models, I found BLUETTI portable power stations to be quiet, dependable, easy to use and well suited for camping and emergency backup power needs.

If you rely on a CPAP machine, a portable power station may be one of the most important pieces of camping gear you can own.

How Long Does it Take to Recharge a Bluetti Portable Power Station Using the Solar Power Attachment?

The Bluetti Power Station can be recharged by plugging it into any wall outlet. If there is no power outlet at your tent site, but there is one in some other spot at a campground, you can recharge it using a wall outlet. If you are camping and there is no place to plug in the device to recharge it, you can use the solar panel to recharge it. Ths could also be a valuable attachment to have for emergency situations when power is out for extended periods of time. I tested the solar panel recently and found that it took six hours of sunlight to fully charge the battery. It was easy to use and it worked well for me.

If you own a CPAP, you should clean your mask regularly. These inexpensive CPAP mask wipes make it easy. Gently and thoroughly clean your CPAP mask and other plastic and silicone surfaces without leaving any lint, residues, fragrances or particles. Each soft but durable wipe removes dirt and oils without damaging your mask.

Watts= volts × amps so the math says it draws 90 watts. If it lasts about 6 hours, it would stand to reason that the Bluetti is around 500-600 watt/hour capacity.
